Nouryon (formerly AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals) has announced the 13 finalists for the 2019 edition of its Imagine Chemistry collaborative innovation challenge.

A consortium comprising Nouryon, Gasunie and four other partners will receive an €11-million European grant towards their proposed green hydrogen project in Delfzijl, the Netherlands. The project is a front-runner among several hydrogen initiatives aimed at cutting carbon emissions and will be a significant milestone in the transition to a more sustainable, circular economy, the companies say.

Surfactants derived from plants, eco-friendly membranes, and miniature sensors were among the eight winning ideas in the 2019 Imagine Chemistry collaborative innovation challenge, organized by Nouryon (formerly AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals). More than 160 submissions from 30 countries were received, and the winners were chosen from 14 finalists at a three-day event at the company’s RD&I center in Deventer, the Netherlands.

Nouryon announced the launch of Demeon® ReNu100 propellant for aerosol applications at in-cosmetics Global in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This product features dimethyl ether (DME) with a natural origin index of 1 and is made from 100% biobased methanol according to the mass balance approach. Developed in response to consumer demand for premium low-carbon personal care products, Nouryon’s biobased Demeon® ReNu100 provides a high-performing propellant that reduces the carbon footprint by up to 100% compared to standard DME. This versatile ingredient can be used in various personal care applications including hair spray, antiperspirant and deodorant sprays, dry shampoos, mousse, and shave foams.

The ECCD offers a broad range of facilities to image and locally analyze solid materials on a microscopic level.

The Nouryon ECCD testing expertise covers key physical property for a wide range of materials such as chemicals, polymers and plastics, consumer products, fuels and lubes, films, coatings and many other materials.

Sailing from Nouryon’s locations in Delfzijl, the Netherlands to Rotterdam on green hydrogen instead of gas oil; this sustainable option is being explored by a partnership of Nouryon, Europe’s largest inland shipping cooperative NPRC, and NPRC member firm Lenten Scheepvaart. With the study, they aim to demonstrate that zero-emission transport by water is possible.
