Nouryon, DSM, Google and Philips became the first to receive power from the new Bouwdokken and Krammer Wind farms in the Netherlands – a milestone achievement resulting from a unique green energy purchasing consortium.

Nouryon and other firms based at Chemical Park Delfzijl in the Netherlands will save up to 100,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year through the increased use of sustainable steam. The company will use the additional supply to make its salt production at the Delfzijl site more sustainable.

The Dutch government has signed an agreement with AkzoNobel recognizing the company’s latest contribution to meeting national sustainability targets resulting from investments at its chemicals complex in Rotterdam.

Nuon is to supply flexible energy to three of AkzoNobel’s chemical production sites in the Netherlands as part of an agreement to purchase a total net volume of 1.5 TWh. The deal will allow AkzoNobel to take advantage of flexibility in its chemical production and its own electricity generation to balance fluctuations in energy supply to optimize costs.
